Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 7, 2026

Intent ("we", "us", "our") operates the Intent macOS application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App. We are committed to transparency about our data practices and protecting your privacy.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

Intent does not collect, store, or retain any personal data, browsing history, screenshots, or screen recordings. We do not maintain user accounts, databases of user activity, or behavioral profiles. We do not track you across sessions or devices.

2. How Screen Data Is Processed

Intent uses optical character recognition (OCR) technology to read text visible on your screen. Here is exactly what happens:

Session context learning: when you work in a document app (such as Google Docs, Word, Notion, or Overleaf) for several minutes, Intent may summarize the visible document text — through the same on-device filtering pipeline — into a few topic keywords (for example, "film analysis, box office") so that related research is not mistaken for distraction. Only the keywords are kept; they are discarded when your session ends, and this learning never occurs on financial, health, or entertainment pages.

Financial and health pages are never read at all. When a window title indicates online banking, payment services, investment platforms, or health portals, Intent does not read any page content — the alignment decision is made from a sanitized window title alone, and the contents of the page never leave your Mac.

3. Sensitive Content Filtering

We employ algorithms specifically designed to identify and remove sensitive information from captured screen text before it is sent for AI processing. This includes but is not limited to passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers, and other personal identifiers.

Important: While we make every effort to filter sensitive content accurately, we cannot guarantee that our algorithms will detect and remove all sensitive information in every scenario. No automated filtering system is 100% accurate. By using Intent, you acknowledge and accept this limitation.

4. Third-Party Data Processing

Intent uses OpenAI's API to perform AI-based content analysis. When filtered screen text is sent to OpenAI:

We do not share, sell, or transmit your data to any other third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.

5. What We Do Not Do

To be clear about the boundaries of our data practices:

6. Local Data Storage

Intent stores your stated focus goals (intents), usage statistics, and progress data locally on your macOS device. Your current intent is included in alignment requests so the AI can perform its check, but it is never stored by us. Everything else never leaves your device, and you can delete it at any time by removing the App.

7. Data Security

All data transmitted between the App and OpenAI's API is encrypted using industry-standard HTTPS/TLS protocols. Screen data is processed in real time and is not persisted to disk at any point during the processing pipeline.

8. Children's Privacy

Intent is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly process information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 is using Intent, please contact us at theintentapp@gmail.com.

9. Your Rights

Because we do not collect or store personal data, there is no personal data for us to provide, modify, or delete. Your focus goals are stored locally on your device and can be managed or deleted by you at any time.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Intent after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
